Juniper River Adventures was founded by Mia Sheppard—with the mission for introducing more people to the Great Outdoors with an emphasis on women and kids. She shares her passion of fly fishing and wild places while teaching people about the resources and building the next generation of stewards.
Mia is an accomplished fishing guide, angler, mother, hunter, and a lover of wild places. Mia and her husband, Marty, have been outfitting anglers and adventure seekers on Oregon’s wild rivers since 2003.
Mia grew up in Tennessee, where she hiked and chased trout in the Great Smoky Mountains. But eventually, she discovered snowboarding, after which she spent years chasing powder from Truckee, California to Girdwood, Alaska.
In 1996, she acquired a serious interest in fly fishing. Later, in 2001, Marty introduced her to two-handed Spey casting—a pursuit that forged Mia’s connection and admiration to Oregon’s wild steelhead and rivers as well as becoming a 3 time worls champion spey caster. Finally, in 2003, the couple purchased Little Creek Outfitters, an established guide service, where they continue the tradition of guiding anglers to the region’s steelhead, trout, and smallmouth bass; as well as offering women specific fishing and stand up paddle board trips. on the John Day River and Grande Ronde Rivers.
Mia is a board member for the Oregon State Marine Board and the BLM Resources Advisory Council where she represents sportsmen and women on public land issues. She is an ambassador for Grundens, GLoomis, Airflow and Smith Optics. As well as; a master in the art of spey casting and a three time world champion spey caster.
